Life Painting: Exploring Paint from Watercolour to Acrylic

A life painting course that aims to open up
the dramatically different possibilities offered
by a wide range of paint mediums. Students will experiment with making their own paints, such as acrylic and watercolour
and examine their technical handling and expressive qualities. Students will have the opportunity to paint both the life model and
the model clothed, exploring the rich colours of cloth as well as the skin. Paints and
grounds covered will include: gesso, tempera, acrylic, watercolour and oil paint. Throughout the course a number of examples
will be referred to, illustrating artists’ choice of paint media and how historic processes
can be used in contemporary painting.
-Students will be sent a materials list and fact sheet before the start of the course.
Sculpting the Figure

This is an opportunity to sculpt the human
body from life using wax over ten sessions. Students are taken through the various stages
of forming a figure sculpture, working from the skeleton through to the the contours
defining the flesh. Many issues and aspects relating to the interest and
excitement of sculpting from life will be covered, and at the end of the course students will come away with a finished figure sculpture. This course is open to all levels of experience
including those new to sculpture.

A creative approach to life drawing in which
students will build both confidence and
skills. In this life class a variety of rare drawing
materials will be available to use in the
sessions and there will be a different model
each week. Students of all levels are welcome
including beginners.
