SUMMER TERM 2013
Tuesday
Flora: Summer Still Lives
Charlotte Verity / Clare Newbolt
23/04/2013 - 25/06/2013
10:00-17:00 Kensington Palace Studios
Book now
In Nature we perceive an entire beauty: “a
light of laughing flowers” (Shelley); in painting
we see a sense of permanence in a transient
world. To paint a flower can be as demanding
as painting a human face. We will
consider how to translate into paint their
brightness and fragility, their strength and
their exquisite design. There will be different
fresh flowers each week and in the natural
light of the studios we will consider many
aspects of making paintings using these
fleeting motifs as our subject.
Sculpting an Equine Head
Marcus Cornish
23/04/2013 - 25/06/2013
10:00-17:00 Kensington Palace Studios
Book now
On this course students will make a sculpture
of a horse’s head in clay in three dimensions.
Students will visit The British
Museum to look at the considerable, beautiful
and varied historical items eluding to the
horse. Drawing from these objects and from
life at local stables, will give us the information
we need to start sculpting. We will build
out from the skull to the muscle and skin of
this most powerful and beautiful creature.
-Students will be sent a materials list and fact sheet before the start of the course.
Painting: From the Human Form
John Lessore / Paul Gopal-Chowdhury
23/04/13 - 25/06/13
10:00-17:00 Sydney Close Studios
Book now
The first part of this life painting course will
cover the “nuts and bolts” of painting including
tone, temperature, space and composition.
Later in the term, there will be an
emphasis on colour with students exploring
how to make colour equivalents for the
model in space. Whereas drawing is used to
explore a rational understanding of form,
colour has its own logic and students will be
encouraged to find a balance between these
two ways of seeing. This course is designed
for students of all levels.
