Life Painting: Figure in a Room

What we are is bound to be the module for
what we perceive. How many steps would it
take us to reach the far wall? How heavy does
that man over there look compared to my
weight? And so on. This is part of the way we
perceive our environment. It’s relatively simple
for us to empathise with one other person,
but can we empathise with one other
room with a whole person in it? Again, this is
a matter of empathy stretching from ourselves
to our surroundings. I can’t do better
than Rainer Maria Rilke who wrote “Space
spreads transposingly from us to things”. So
to a certain extent the journey out is always
the journey in. There will be two sustained
poses over the term, each of five weeks’ duration.
This will give us the advantage of painting
onto dry paint each week.
-A full list of materials required will be sent to students before the class commences.

Individual tuition will be given. All levels
